An Andrews Story:
Working Together with the Evie Effect

In May of 2019, Michael and Jessica Domingos faced an unimaginable tragedy. Their beloved daughter, Evie, just 12 years old, lost her battle with emotional struggles and took her own life.

From the depths of their grief, they made a transformative choice: to turn their heartbreak into hope and action. The tragedy faced by the Domingos led them to found The Evie Effect, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering understanding, resilience, and community.

Mari Gutierrez (left) leads the Zero Suicide program at Andrews and has partnered with the Evie Effect for years, previously serving as Board President and Director of Mental Health Advocacy. “The group is making a profound difference in enlightening people about this important concern to prevent loss of life,” Mari says.

“We strive to ensure that every voice is heard, and no one is left behind,” Michael explains.

Jessica agrees: “The Evie Effect’s vision is clear: to foster a community where mental well-being flourishes and suicide prevention is a priority. Every program, event, and initiative is a testament to Evie’s legacy and a reflection of our belief in the ripple effect of kindness and action.”
