An Andrews Story:
Hope, Hard Work and Triumph

Theresa Jack (left) and Missy Boyd, her peer specialist, who has lived experience with overcoming mental illness.

Eight years ago, Theresa Jack's life was a stark contrast to what it is today. Struggling with the overwhelming grief of losing a baby, she faced a battle with anxiety, major depression, schizophrenia, and PTSD that left her feeling hopeless. At her lowest point, Theresa even attempted to end her life.

“It’s been rough,” Theresa shares. “But treatment has changed everything for me. Socialization helps. Being able to talk to people.”

Through the unwavering support of her therapists, case managers, and peer support team, Theresa has found a path to healing. She credits them with helping her lessen her depression and improve her communication.

Today, Theresa is focused on self-care—exercising regularly, taking her prescribed medications, and maintaining her health with vitamins and minerals.

She believes the key to recovery is reaching out. “Don’t isolate yourself,” she advises. “Seek help. It’s worth it.”

Her peer specialist, Missy Boyd, couldn’t agree more. “Theresa has worked so hard to turn her life around. She’s a true success story, and I’m incredibly proud of her,” Missy says.

Theresa deeply values the role Missy has played in her journey. “I really appreciate Missy,” she says. “She has helped me so much.”

Missy emphasizes that mental health deserves the same attention as physical health. “We need to talk about it openly, without shame, judgment, or hesitation.”
