Bipolar Disorder, major depression and schizophrenia are the three most commonly diagnosed mental illnesses among adults. These are complicated illnesses that greatly impact the lives of the diagnosed as well as their family, friends and other members of their community.
Help is available to make living life with a mental illness less complex. These services are available to residents of Smith, Wood, Rains, Van Zandt and Henderson Counties. Call the nearest Andrews Center Outpatient Clinic to schedule an intake appointment.
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a scientific method proven to be the most effective treatment for people with Autism and other pervasive developmental disabilities. During ABA, the therapist, parent or teacher communicates a series of specific steps while interacting with the child. This helps the child adjust and adapt to different situations and teaches them to interact with others at home and at school in a positive way. ABA is a structured one-on-one program that relies almost entirely upon meaningful, individualized rewards for specific, identified behaviors. ABA uses personalized positive reinforcement, rather than cookie cutter-type rewards.
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities:
Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) is the term to describe conditions that occur before age 18, the symptoms of which result in a person’s daily living skills being significantly below average. People with IDD often have difficulty living, working and playing in the community. Using tests that measure intelligence and daily living skills, psychologists or specially trained physicians can diagnose IDD. Although IDD occurs before age 18, diagnostic testing can be performed at any age.
